SUMMER in CHINA
BackgroundApply
In the summer of 2018 RHT Education will convene its Youth Leadership and STEAM Camps. These are two camp programs held in both Hunan and Jiangsu Provinces. Teachers will teach in the program of their choice and experience both provinces during their stay.
These camps have been developed in response to the Chinese education communities’ needs:

- Environmental Science theme

- Underpinning preparation for Chinese university entrance test

The Program
The ‘Summer in China” programs bring experienced teachers to China and provides them with a secure platform from which to gain international teaching experience. The program includes:

The program itself is divided into three phases, all administered by CIEI and RHT.
Phase 1- Recruitment (January to February)
The recruitment phase focuses on each candidate’s suitability. A series of interviews will assess each candidate’s abilities and gauge which positions would be most suitable.
Phase 2- Preparation (March-June)
After a contract has been offered and signed by all parties preparation will commence. Preparation is split into two parts; the visa process, and placement orientation.

Teachers will be provided with all the required visa documentation and instructions. After the visa has been approved and all pre-departure checks have been completed, the teacher will be ready to fly to China.

Prior to departure, teachers will receive copies of their programs curriculum and the role they will be expected to play. Online live is available for questions that may arise. On arrival in China teachers will be greeted at the airport and taken to the training centre. There they will receive training and orientation. This comprehensively details the program’s mechanisms and includes advice on living in China, some survival Chinese, and an overview of the courses they will be teaching.
Phase 3- Teaching (July-August)
After the orientation teachers will be placed at their program sites. The programs are designed as 2 x 13 day camps plus the 7 day tour at the completion of the program. Teachers will be transported by high speed train between the two provinces.
Each classroom will have four staff in attendance. A lead experienced and qualified visiting teacher supported by a qualified bilingual Chinese teacher plus a visiting graduate student and a bilingual Chinese teaching assistant.
There is no requirement to speak Chinese as the programs are designed to be delivered in English. All students will have been pre-selected and enrolled on their ability to communicate in English.
